About the World and man

Manuscript, De Mundo et Cœlo [title on the back, early seventeenth century]; Latin; a small volume in-fol. (26x19cm) of 241 pages, binding of the brown Basque period, golden finial on the plates (rel. a little used). The manuscript, of which the 1st sheet is missing, opens on the “Quaestio 2a”; it bears at the end the inscription “Estienne Serrinet de Dole Obiit 1674”. The pages are filled with a small, tight writing in brown ink. The text, probably for educational purposes, inspired by Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas, is composed of questions (Quaestio) and chapters (Caput) or books (Liber). – [I De Mundo] Quaestio 2a (“De causa mundi effectrice”) at 8. – Liber 2 Of the Heart, questions 1 to 6 (“De causa motrice et motu firmamenti De Planetarum”)… Etc. It is treated of constellations (Syderibus), the elements composing the universe, meteors and comets, the formation of steam, water; the last question concerns the rainbow (Iris parelia)… Ink stamps from the A.
